Looking down and around
Sometimes you don't have to look far to find some amazing sites. Discoveries at eye level take a mere turn of your head and a desire to see something neat. But while you are doing that, be careful where you step, you may be obliterating something you wish you'd seen first. When spring decides to spring, these opportunities are manifold. Here are 18 yard images and two from the road. See the stories that go with the pictures at Corndancer dot-com and Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind.

Move
The ubiquitous Spring Beauty. No yard is complete without them. They lie like ticking time bombs, waiting for just the right moment and then explode in numbers, saying, "Hey y'all, it's spring!"
Spring beauties are gone in a week or so, but do their job to signal the end of winter.
Up close and personal.
Looking long-wise.
This flower is around 1/8" wide and requires muddy knees for a successful shot.
These yellow blossoms are no more than 3/8" across.
Small splendor.
A dandelion bloom gone to seed, one of natures complex marvels.
Step inside a dandelion.
Then back up and take a look.
This dandelion has nearly fulfilled its ordained purpose.
Freckles are beautiful. Particularly on azeleas.
Dogwoods are early this year and will have finished their display long before Easter.
Bugging the dogwoods.
Bug munching out.
An unknown (to me) shrub in our front yard. Selective focus (selected by the camera) gives the pistils of the flowers a 3-d freckles effect.
A road flower emulates society. Babies, not-quite-ready-for-prime-time juveniles, fully fledged adults, and those of past glory.
More of the same.
