The Arkansas River railroad bridge at Yancopin plus an old gin and Bonnie's Cafe at Watson, Arkansas. Great stuff in the Delta.

A friendly conversation at Bonnie's Cafe in Watson, Arkansas yields information leading to an image gold mine on a perfect day. See Bonnie's Cafe facebook page here. Out of use for years and way, far-off the beaten path, the old Missouri-Pacific Yancopin railroad bridge stands proud and is a sight to see for those who will venture into the boondocks. See the stories that go with these pictures at Corndancer dot-com and Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind.

This bridge over the Arkansas River northeast of Yancopin, which is northeast of Watson, Arkansas, from what we can tell has not been used for its original purpose since 1992. In 1992, the Missouri Pacific Railroad passed title to 73 miles of Delta Railroad running from Cypress Bend in Southeast Arkansas to Lexa in northeast Arkansas to the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. The department subsequently designated the route as part and parcel of the Delta Heritage Trail. The trail has not yet been developed in this area, but plans are in place for the development. When available, a trip through the area will give hikers a close up view of Delta Wilderness as well as a good look at this bridge. See a trail brochure here.

This is Bonnie's Cafte, shot October 26, 2008, a Sunday. There are no pickups in front of the cafe indicating that at the time it was closed. Any other time, you can bet there will be a pickup or two in front. Bonnie and her customers were good enough to inform me of the presence of the bridge. For which I am grateful. See Bonnie's facebook page here.
