Meandering around the bayou
Bayou Bartholomew, the longest bayou on the planet, starts about 15 miles or so from our residence and winds around some 360 miles or so until it empties into the Ouachita River near Sterlington LA. Driving distance from the starting point to Sterlington is 141 miles which makes for a bunch of curleyques. This week we take a look at a 100 yards or so of the bayou. That leaves a lot left to explore. See the stories that go with the pictures at Corndancer dot-com and Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind.

A little on the creepy side, but necessary, this is the under side of the south Olive Street bridge in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, over Bayou Bartholomew.

A closer view of the last picture, a late afternoon shot.

This the bridge you were just under, from the east, the next morning. You get a glimpse of the Hampton Inn to the upper left.
-
A closer look at the bridge. The shooting position for the original under bridge shot is off camera to the right under the bridge.
-
Just downstream from the bridge, dragon flies are swarming in the early morning light. Back lighting makes for dramatic greens.

More dragon flies.

Water lillies in a cypress pond (a borrow or "bar" pit probably), south of I-530 and Hazel Street in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Bayou Bartholomew crosses Hazel just south of this pond.
-
More water lillies and a busy bee.

Water lily up close and personal, complete with a few natural imperfections, probably imposed by insects.

And still yet another lily. You can see the developing seed pod in the center of the bloom.

Look at them bloomin' lillies.
