Garvan Gardens Antique and Classic Boat Show and Anthony Chapel
Garvan Gardens is a great place for brides and boats. Depending on your priorities, not necessarily in that order. This week we take a look at the 2011 permutation of the Garvan Gardens Classic and Anitque Boat show — a phenomenal collection of mahagony, chrome, and nostalgia — and Anthony Chapel, an immensely popular venue for weddings. See the stories that go with these pictures at Corndancer dot-com and Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind.

Looking down the line of antique and classic boats at the 2011 Garvan Gardens Antique and Classic Boat Show. The value of the boats on display exceeds $350,000. Boat owners come from several states to participate in the two day event which is free and open to the public.

"Mischief," a 1949 22' Chris Craft Sportsman powered by a 6-cylinder, 158 hp Hercules engine. Owned by Larry and Jan Hamilton of Moore OK.

These floating treasures are major-league boy toys.

Please forgive the wide-angle distortion. Falling off the dock was the second and least desirable option for camera angles.
-
You are looking at a classic woody, a 1957 Cadillac Boats 14' Newport powered by a 25 horsepower 2-cylinder outboard. As a side note, yours truly learned how to water-ski behind a 25 hp outboard on nearby Lake Catherine.

Pristine '49 Chris Craft in foreground.

This is "Caviar Dreams," a 1971 Riva 18' Junior, (made in Italy). It sports a 200 hp Chevy 305 c.i. engine. The boat weighs 8,000 pounds. Owned by Paul Hastings of Little Rock AR.
-
A Chris Craft that has to be out of the late 50s since it sports a fin which was popular on cars of that era.
-
A 1969 Riva 27' Aquarama. Powered by two 260 hp V8 engines which will push it to 48 mph under the right water conditions. Owned by Clay and Patty Anderson of Altus OK.
-
How the back of the Riva looks to others when it is doing 48 mph.
-
A classic wooden boat, the details of which I do not know.
-
Good wood!

The Anthony Carillion at Garvan Gardens is part and parcel of the Anhony Chapel environment. I did not have the opportunity to hear the bells toll unfortunately.
-
The tall and graceful Anthony Chapel in Garvan Gardens looks like it belongs there, not something added into the natural envionment. The facility stays booked up for weddings.

Anthony Chapel from a slightly different angle.
-
The interior of Anthony Chapel gives you the illusion that you are still outdoors. Fortunately this feeling stops short of climatic conditions. The air conditioning system works well.
-
the Anthony Chapel interior from a slightly different angle. The floor to ceiling height is 57 feet.

Anthony Chapel looking north from the stream that runs close by.

The tulips seem to be listening to someone saying, "now that I have your attention . . . ."
