St. Boniface in the boondocks
I shot these pictures February 27, 2010 in the New Dixie community in central Arkansas, and at Houston, Bigelow, and Lake Maumelle, Arkansas. We made the trip to shoot St. Boniface Church. The rest were targets of opportunity. See the stories that go with the pictures at Corndancer dot-com and Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind.
Move
St. Boniface Church, despite its age is alive and well with regularly scheduled services.
The church is well tended and maintained.
A wider view
The cemetery reflects the community with graves going back well into the 1800s
The interior is pristine. The original altar was destroyed by fire. The current altar is an exact replica of the original and was built by parishoners.
This is an honor-roll of parish soldiers, sailors, and Marines who served in World War II. It was started during the war.
Plaque on the Houston Methodist Church at Houston, Arkansas.
Though on the National Register of Historic Places, the Houston Methodist Church has not fared as well over the years as St. Boniface.
AT the time I shot the Church it was operating with a new name.
There was a leaning house in Bigelow, Arkansas
Still leaning
This is the center-board boat launching ramp at the Grande Maumelle Sailing Club on Lake Maumell, west of Little Rock. I have helmed many a race on the waters of that lake.
Ain't it cool? Thanks for dropping by.
